Biology

Biology Project Reflection
Before we began the project, we learned about DNA processing and how important each of the four steps are. The first activity were we explored this process was an online simulation. This gave visuals of everything happening during this process that could not be seen with the naked eye, and explained each step thoroughly. Later we put this process to the test in an actual lab, where we tested real DNA and gathered the results, using the process outlined in the online simulation. We learned that DNA is collected at crime scenes and then tested for a match to determine if the accused actually committed the crime. Unfortunately, on many occasions this is not determined until the accused has spent years in jail.

In this project I was assigned to create a sculpture out of tape to represent a specific individual who was exonerated. My partner and I read about a man who had spent about 16 years in prison before being exonerated. We were sympathetic to the portion of is life lost in prison for a crime he didn’t do, so we decided to represent this in our sculpture. His right arm fading away represented the his life lost, but the rest of his life had been saved with forensic evidence so we painted DNA molecules over the rest of his body to represent the portion of his life saved by forensics.

During this project I learned that there was a shocking amount of men and women who were exonerated. I connected to this project mostly through my sympathy for these people.  This sympathy inspired the sculpture that my partner and I created. I believe that we have done quality and professional work; therefore I am proud of what I have done. The sculpture came out much better than I had expected. However, our sculpture did come out slightly deformed. If I could, I would make sure to make the figure more proportionate. I would have had to take my time to make sure each body part is equal.

Biology is the study of natural life.

The whale shark is the worlds largest living fish. It is a filter feeding animal. It lives in warm temperature seas. They are freindly and have been known to let divers take rides on their backs.

Below is a link to my biology blog that includes what we have been learning about. We are required have a separate blog.

This blog is to exhibit what we have learned in this class.

Immune System Project
Before this project we spent weeks learning about the human anatomy. The respiratory system, the circulatory system, the reproductive system, and the immune system, which is my project focused on.

The purpose of this project was to inform the community about the our assigned system of the human body, the immune system. We did this by creating a website.

I'm made the diction to have a creative way of exhibiting my project. I received the roll of creative media II. Other members in the group were interested n other aspects of this project.

My role, creative media II, was to find and research a disease. The disease I chose was lupus because it specifically effects the immune system.

I am very proud of how I explained how lupus works. I did it with a creative photoshoped image of the immune system and lupus with human characteristics. I would have liked to create a more detailed description of what happened. This project was relevant because it directly effects the human body and is happening in my body. Know I have a in depth knowledge of the immune system the the disease lupus.
